The Eye of the Beholder by Mad-Margaret The Eye of the Beholder by Mad-Margaret
This was a quick exercise I started in class and finished at home. Took approx 4 hours from start to finish. Not sure about quality of scan, makes it look a bit woolly. Oh well. It's just an exercise.

I can't believe just how awesome and realistic this is! I love drawings of eyes, and I've seen so many already that it surprises me to spot a good one that impresses me. This one is magnificent. I love the iris, the details on the eyelashes. Perfect

From one who has attempted to sketch eyes but has utterly failed: Simply stunning.

(I am jealous!)

I did a lot of practice - but tip of the day, just draw what you see. Oh, and always treat the whites of the eyes as negative shapes - draw them in first and you should draw the iris/pupil by doing that.

Wow, I love the photo realistic detail! There are little parts that just make all the difference, like the tiny wrinkles below the eye that are meticulously shaded. This is pretty sweet :D

Thank you very much - I enjoy doing this work occasionally, but I prefer to work more loosely. Having said that, am working on a cat right now with watercolour pencils and that is just as detailed!

Oh goody, I can't wait to see it :D
It is good to do that sort of tight photorealism sometime, or at least try to do it (in my case) because it really helps with your perception and knowledge. It's like studying for an exam--pouring over the textbooks for all the details!

Thanks, but I like your eye. If I may suggest something - you could try getting a grey across the whole eyeball, which would then take away the need for a line around the highlight. Unless that was what you wanted, of course. :)
